Future Typo
Evolving Animated Typography Since 1996. Future Typo is a long-term, research-driven exploration of animated and three-dimensional typography. Founded by designer Jan Tomas, the project redefines how letterforms operate through motion, space, and digital environments.
What began as experimental typefaces for new media in 1996 evolved into Digimoon in 2001 and later, in 2009, into Future Typo 1, one of the first fully realized 3D typeface systems designed specifically for motion and spatial transformation. Since then, Future Typo has expanded into a multidimensional design platform where typography becomes structure, surface, presence, and environment.
Here, letters are not static signs. They are constructed as spatial systems. Designed to rotate, transform, and evolve, each form exists between language and sculpture.
Animated typography is the core language of the project. Through rhythm, light, and material depth, letterforms reveal their inner architecture and unfold as living form. Sculptural works capture typographic gesture frozen mid-motion, often containing hidden or concealed letter structures derived from the proprietary Future Typo typeface systems.
The project extends beyond the screen into digital editions, collectible formats, interior and architectural visualizations, physical sculpture, and interactive publishing. Across all media, Future Typo maintains a consistent research focus, expanding typography into space while preserving its structural essence.
Future Typo has received international recognition and has been presented through exhibitions, publications, and lectures, contributing to contemporary discourse in type design, motion design, and visual communication.
Typography here is not only read.
It is experienced.
