About Designer Jan Tomas
Studied in Prague at the Academy of Arts, Architecture, and Design in the Department of Graphic Design and Poster Design under Professor Zděnek Ziegler. Graduated in Berlin from the University of the Arts under Professor Holger Matthies in the Department of Visual Communications. Cooperated with Professor Holger Matthies’ studio in Hamburg. Founded his own studio in Prague, working for clients worldwide. Won the 2nd Prize in Osaka, Japan, for the logo design of “The League of Historical Cities”. Was awarded 1st Prize for his poster work for the new “Mercedes-Benz S-Class campaign”. Has participated in group exhibitions at the “DDD Gallery” in Osaka, Japan, and at the “Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe” in Hamburg, Germany. Participated in group exhibitions at the International Biennale of Graphic Design and the poster exhibition in Mexico and Brno. Was awarded 1st Prize at the “AGI Poster Competition” for the poster “Against Right Wing Violence”. Received the “Typographic Excellence” award from the Type Directors Club in New York. His first collection of fonts was inspired by cutting-edge technology and designed for 2D animation. They were incorporated as part of the Linotype Library, and later into the Monotype library. In 2011, he founded Future Typo, the first typefaces for animated typography with original 3D typefaces. Since 2017, Jan Tomas has been lecturing around the globe.
